I listen to the 91.3FM radio on my iPhone every morning on my way to work via the NEL. Without fail, whenever the train arrives at Hougang Station, the radio reception will drop and whatever music that I was listening to will come to a stop. Zip! Indirectly, my iPhone gives me a check mark every morning whenever I am at Hougang. For some reason, my phone just can’t receive any signals from the 91.3FM radio station.
This reminds me of a concept that I explain to my patients everyday. Our central nervous system is made up of the brain and spinal cord, which branch out as nerves reaching out to all our organs, muscles and ligaments. Our spine protects the spinal cord and these nerves. When any one of the 24 bones in our spine gets moved out of its ideal position (misalignment), the nerves can become impinged. It does not take a huge impact to cause misalignments in the spine. A simple fall, poor posture, stress at work, carrying things the wrong way are common examples of such misalignment causing events in life.
Our central nervous system is designed in such a way that every single function in our body is controlled by our brain. The brain sends instructions to every organ, muscle and ligament 24/7. To these organs, muscles and ligaments, these instructions reach them like how radio signals reach my iPhone and my ears as music. The brain is like the radio station. In an ideal situation, radio signals get transmitted to all the listeners (organs, muscles and ligaments) all the time.
When a nerve becomes impinged due to a misalignment, the “radio signal” from the brain can be lost, just like the music on my iPhone. In such a situation, instructions from the brain may or may not reach the destination, i.e. organs, muscles and ligaments, or they may reach at less than 100%. When this happens, bodily functions will become adversely affected. Sometimes, it can translate into pain, weakness, achiness, “sour”, numbness, tingling sensations etc. Such sensations are indications that the misalignments have been there for a long while.
It is important to have your spines checked by a chiropractor, even if you are not in pain or experiencing any discomfort. Prevention is better than cure. Give us a call at 63367714 to schedule an appointment today!
