Chiropractic in Singapore: A Complete Guide
Chiropractic care is one of the most widely used complementary healthcare approaches in Singapore. Whether you’re dealing with back pain from long hours at a desk, recovering from a sports injury, or simply curious about what chiropractic care involves, this guide answers the most common questions — clearly and honestly.
What Is Chiropractic Care?
Chiropractic is a healthcare discipline focused on the relationship between the spine, the nervous system, and overall body function. Chiropractors use hands-on techniques — primarily spinal adjustment and mobilisation — to restore proper movement, reduce pain, and support the body’s natural ability to function well.
Chiropractic care is drug-free and non-invasive. It does not involve surgery, medication, or injections. The focus is on identifying and addressing the structural cause of a problem rather than simply managing symptoms.
What Conditions Bring People to a Chiropractor in Singapore?
People visit chiropractic clinics in Singapore for a wide range of musculoskeletal concerns, including:
- Back pain — the most common reason, whether acute (sudden onset) or chronic (long-standing)
- Neck pain — often linked to prolonged screen use, poor posture, or desk work
- Sciatica — pain, numbness, or tingling radiating from the lower back into the leg
- Headaches and migraines — particularly those originating from neck tension or cervical joint problems
- Shoulder pain — including rotator cuff issues and referred pain from the neck
- Scoliosis — management and monitoring of spinal curvature
- Posture correction — addressing the effects of prolonged sitting, forward head posture, and tech neck
- Pregnancy-related back and pelvic pain — using safe, modified techniques
- Paediatric concerns — from birth trauma to postural issues in growing children
How Does a Chiropractic Adjustment Work?
A chiropractic adjustment (also called spinal manipulation) involves the chiropractor applying a controlled, precise force to a specific spinal joint. The goal is to restore normal movement and reduce nerve irritation in that area.
There are many different adjustment techniques. Some are more forceful (these may produce the familiar “cracking” or “popping” sound — caused by gas releasing from the joint). Others are extremely gentle and low-force, such as the Activator method or instrument-assisted techniques.
At Family Health Chiropractic Clinic, we do not perform cracking or popping adjustments at all. We use gentle, low-force techniques that are appropriate for patients of all ages — from newborns to seniors.
Is Chiropractic Regulated in Singapore?
Chiropractic is not currently regulated under a dedicated statutory board in Singapore (unlike medicine, dentistry, or physiotherapy). However, chiropractors in Singapore are typically members of The Chiropractic Association (Singapore) [TCA], which upholds professional standards and a code of ethics.
When choosing a chiropractor in Singapore, look for:
- Graduation from an accredited chiropractic college (recognised by the World Federation of Chiropractic)
- Membership with The Chiropractic Association (Singapore) or another recognised professional body
- Transparent communication about your assessment, care plan, and fees
Both chiropractors at Family Health Chiropractic Clinic graduated with Summa Cum Laude honours from Sherman College of Chiropractic (USA), one of the world’s leading chiropractic institutions, and are active members of The Chiropractic Association (Singapore).
What to Expect at Your First Chiropractic Visit in Singapore
If you’ve never been to a chiropractor before, here is what a typical first visit looks like at Family Health Chiropractic Clinic:
- Health history consultation — Your chiropractor will ask about your current concern, how it started, your medical history, lifestyle, and goals.
- Physical assessment — This includes a postural evaluation, spinal assessment, range of motion testing, and where relevant, orthopaedic and neurological tests.
- Report of findings — Your chiropractor will explain what they found, what they believe is causing your concern, and what they recommend.
- First session (if appropriate) — If chiropractic care is appropriate for your concern, your first session may begin at the same visit.
The full first appointment typically takes 45–60 minutes. Subsequent visits are shorter.
How Much Does Chiropractic Cost in Singapore?
Chiropractic fees in Singapore vary depending on the clinic, chiropractor experience, and the type of care involved.
At Family Health Chiropractic Clinic:
- First visit: typically $125 – $150 before GST
- Subsequent visits: typically $75 – $90 before GST
Fees are before GST. Terms and conditions apply.
We do not sell packages. Every visit is billed individually. Discounts are available for family members of existing patients, children under 12, and seniors above 65.
Does Insurance Cover Chiropractic in Singapore?
Some insurance plans cover chiropractic services in Singapore. Coverage varies significantly between insurers and plans — we recommend checking your policy details before your appointment. We provide itemised official receipts to support any insurance claims.
Chiropractic care is currently not a Medisave-approved service in Singapore.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
This is one of the most common questions — and the honest answer is: it depends. Factors that influence how many sessions you may need include:
- The nature and severity of your concern
- How long you’ve had the problem
- Your age, overall health, and lifestyle
- Your goals (pain relief only vs. long-term function)
As a general guide:
- Acute concerns (recent onset): Many patients notice improvement within 3–6 visits
- Chronic concerns (long-standing): May take 6–12 or more visits with gradual progress
- Wellness care: Some patients continue with periodic visits once their concern has resolved, to maintain function and prevent recurrence. This is entirely optional.
Your chiropractor will give you an honest assessment at your first visit and set realistic expectations. We will never recommend more care than we genuinely believe you need.
Chiropractic for Specific Groups in Singapore
Chiropractic for Office Workers
Singapore’s working population is highly desk-bound. Prolonged sitting, forward head posture from screens, and sedentary habits contribute to a high prevalence of back pain, neck pain, and headaches. Chiropractic care can help address these concerns by improving spinal joint function and educating patients on ergonomics and posture.
Chiropractic During Pregnancy
Pregnancy places significant demands on the spine and pelvis. Chiropractic care — using modified, pregnancy-safe techniques — is commonly sought for lower back pain, pelvic girdle pain, and sciatic discomfort during pregnancy. The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic protocol certified by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) for supporting pelvic balance during pregnancy.
Paediatric Chiropractic
Paediatric chiropractic uses extremely gentle, finger-tip pressure — very different from adult adjustments. Children are commonly seen for concerns related to birth trauma, colic, postural issues, sports injuries, and scoliosis monitoring. We see patients from a few days old.
Chiropractic for Seniors
Gentle, low-force chiropractic techniques are well-suited for older patients. Many seniors seek chiropractic care for spinal stiffness, joint pain, and maintaining mobility. We offer reduced fees for patients aged 65 and above.
