Frequently Asked Questions About Chiropractic Care in Singapore

Whether you’re visiting a chiropractor for the first time or researching your options, this page answers the most common questions patients ask about chiropractic care in Singapore. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to contact us — we’re happy to help.

General Questions

What is a chiropractor and what do they do?

A chiropractor is a healthcare professional trained to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal conditions, particularly those involving the spine. Chiropractors use hands-on techniques including spinal adjustment, mobilisation, and soft tissue therapy to restore normal movement, reduce pain, and support your body’s natural ability to heal. Chiropractic care is drug-free and non-invasive.

Is chiropractic care safe?

Yes. Chiropractic care is widely recognised as one of the safest non-surgical treatments for musculoskeletal pain when performed by a qualified chiropractor. At Family Health Chiropractic Clinic, we use gentle, low-force techniques and conduct a thorough health assessment before recommending any care. We do not use forceful twisting or cracking of the spine.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor in Singapore?

No referral is required. You can book an appointment directly by calling us at +65 6336 7714, messaging us on WhatsApp, or using our online booking form.

What’s the difference between a chiropractor and a physiotherapist?

Both are allied healthcare professionals who treat musculoskeletal conditions without surgery. Chiropractors focus primarily on the relationship between the spine, nervous system, and overall health — using spinal adjustments and manipulation alongside soft tissue work. Physiotherapists typically focus on rehabilitation exercises, electrotherapy, and movement retraining. Many patients benefit from both; the best starting point depends on your condition.

What’s the difference between a chiropractor and an osteopath?

Chiropractors and osteopaths both use manual therapy, but differ in their training, philosophy, and techniques. Chiropractors tend to focus more specifically on the spine and nervous system, while osteopaths take a broader whole-body approach including visceral manipulation. Both are valid options depending on your needs.

Costs and Insurance

How much does a chiropractor cost in Singapore?

Chiropractic fees in Singapore vary depending on the clinic, chiropractor experience, and type of treatment. At Family Health Chiropractic Clinic, we are transparent about our fees and charge on a per-visit basis — we do not sell packages or lock you into a treatment programme. We offer discounts for family members, children under 12, and seniors above 65. Please contact us for current pricing.

Is chiropractic covered by insurance in Singapore?

Some integrated shield plans and employer-provided medical benefits do cover chiropractic care. Coverage varies by insurer and plan. We recommend checking with your insurance provider. We provide itemised receipts to assist with claims. We do not currently accept Medisave for chiropractic treatment, as it is not a Medisave-approved service.

Do you sell packages?

No. We do not sell packages, and we never pressure patients to commit to a programme. You pay per visit only. This is a core part of our philosophy — we believe in honest, transparent care where you always remain in control.

Your First Visit

What should I expect on my first chiropractic visit?

Your first visit typically includes a detailed health history consultation, a spinal and postural assessment, and a report of findings where your chiropractor explains what they found and what they recommend. If appropriate, your first treatment may begin at the same visit. The full appointment usually takes 45–60 minutes.

What should I wear to a chiropractic appointment?

Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing is ideal. Avoid tight jeans or restrictive clothing. You may be asked to change into a gown for part of the assessment.

What should I bring to my first visit?

Please bring any relevant medical reports, X-rays, MRI scans, or specialist referral letters if you have them. If you’re on medication, knowing the names of your current medications is helpful. You don’t need to bring anything specific — we will assess you from scratch.

Will my first adjustment happen at the first visit?

It depends on your condition and the chiropractor’s assessment. In most cases, if chiropractic care is appropriate, your first treatment will begin at the first visit. However, if further investigations such as X-rays are needed first, your chiropractor will discuss this with you.

Treatments and Conditions

What conditions can a chiropractor treat?

Chiropractors commonly treat: back pain (acute and chronic), neck pain and stiffness, sciatica, shoulder pain, headaches and migraines, scoliosis, posture-related problems, sports injuries, and joint pain. At Family Health Chiropractic, we also see infants and children (paediatric chiropractic) and pregnant women (using the Webster Technique).

Is chiropractic care good for sciatica?

Yes. Chiropractic care is often effective for sciatica caused by lumbar disc herniation, spinal joint restriction, or piriformis syndrome. Your chiropractor will assess the underlying cause of your sciatic nerve irritation and develop an appropriate care plan.

Can a chiropractor help with headaches?

Yes. Many headaches — particularly tension headaches and cervicogenic headaches (those originating from the neck) — respond well to chiropractic care. Research supports spinal manipulation for these types of headaches. Chiropractic care may also help reduce the frequency of migraines.

Is chiropractic safe during pregnancy?

Yes, when performed by a chiropractor trained in prenatal care. At Family Health Chiropractic, Dr. Kelvin Ng is certified in the Webster Technique by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) — a specific protocol designed to support pelvic balance during pregnancy. We use modified, pregnancy-safe techniques and positioning.

Is chiropractic safe for babies and children?

Yes. Paediatric chiropractic care uses very gentle, finger-tip pressure — nothing like adult spinal adjustments. Our chiropractors are trained in paediatric techniques and we commonly see infants from a few days old, children, and teenagers for conditions such as birth trauma, postural issues, and sports-related concerns.

How many chiropractic sessions will I need?

This depends on your condition, how long you’ve had it, your overall health, and your goals. Acute conditions may improve within 3–6 sessions; chronic or complex issues may require more. Your chiropractor will discuss a care plan at your first visit and reassess your progress regularly. You are never obligated to continue — you can stop at any time.
