Children’s Posture & Spinal Health

Led by Dr Kelvin Ng, Founder and Clinic Director, Family Health Chiropractic Clinic. Last updated 6 November 2026.

Children’s Posture & Spinal Health is our gentle assessment and care service for babies, children and teenagers in Singapore. It starts with an unhurried look at your child’s posture and spine. Where it helps, care combines chiropractic adjustments with a guided posture rehabilitation programme, so your child’s spine moves well and their body learns to hold good posture. Parents are with their child throughout. Chiropractic visits are pay-per-visit with no packages, and posture rehabilitation is charged separately.

Who may benefit from an assessment

Many parents bring their child because something looks or feels a little off. Others come for a check-up during the growth years, much like a dental check. An assessment may be worth considering if your child:

  • has one shoulder that sits higher than the other, or a shoulder blade that sticks out more on one side
  • shows a rib or back prominence on one side when bending forward to touch their toes
  • holds their head forward or tilted, or struggles to turn it equally to both sides
  • slouches or rounds their upper back when studying or using a phone, tablet or laptop
  • complains of back or neck aches after school, sport or carrying a heavy school bag
  • gets frequent headaches, particularly as a teenager around heavy study periods
  • has been told to monitor for scoliosis, or has a family history of it
  • is a baby with a head preference, feeding or latching difficulty, or flat spot on one side of the head

Chiropractic is not right for every situation. If your child has sudden severe pain, weakness, spreading numbness, fever with back pain, or an injury after a significant fall or accident, please see a medical doctor first.

What the assessment involves

The assessment is non-invasive and adapted to your child’s age. You are present for all of it. It usually takes about 20 to 30 minutes for an infant and 30 to 45 minutes for an older child. We cover:

  1. History. Birth and developmental history, current concerns, school bag weight, study and screen habits, and sports.
  2. Posture and balance. We look at how your child stands and sits from the front, side and back, and how well they balance and move.
  3. Spine and movement. Gentle checks of spinal movement and joint function, using light palpation.
  4. Explanation. We talk through what we found with you and your child in plain language, and explain the options before anything starts. Posture photographs may be used with your consent to track change over time.
  5. A recommendation. That may be chiropractic care, posture rehabilitation, both, simple monitoring, or a referral to another healthcare provider if that is the better step.

How chiropractic and posture rehabilitation differ

They are two different tools that work well together. Chiropractic care looks at how the spinal joints move. Posture rehabilitation looks at the muscles, balance and habits that hold the body in its everyday position.

Our posture rehabilitation approach

Posture rehabilitation at our clinic is delivered through our Posture Exercise Program, conducted by Dr Kelvin Ng (Doctor of Chiropractic*, USA), a Certified Posture Exercise Professional and Certified Pediatric Posture Specialist. It works alongside chiropractic care and focuses on:

  • Posture and balance assessment to find the specific patterns behind your child’s posture.
  • Motor control exercise in three areas: balance, alignment and motion.
  • Functional strengthening so your child finds and holds their strongest, core-engaged posture.
  • Body awareness so your child learns what good posture feels like and notices when they drift.

Exercises are chosen from your child’s own assessment rather than a generic routine, and explained so that your child understands what they are doing and why. You can see examples in the case studies on the Posture Exercise Program page. Individual results vary. Please note: posture rehabilitation is charged separately from chiropractic visits, and we will confirm the fee with you before you decide to start.

Frequently asked questions

What age can my child have a posture and spinal assessment?

From birth onwards. Newborns are assessed with very light fingertip contact. Babies, children and teenagers are adjusted with the Arthrostim on an age-appropriate setting. The posture rehabilitation programme is usually most relevant once a child is old enough to follow and enjoy the exercises.

Does chiropractic for children involve cracking or twisting?

No. Our clinic adjusts exclusively with the Arthrostim instrument and does not do traditional manipulation, so there is no cracking or twisting.

Is chiropractic safe for children?

Our approach uses very light, controlled force that is adapted to your child’s age and size. Our chiropractors are trained in paediatric care, you are present throughout, and we explain everything and obtain your consent before starting. Read more about paediatric chiropractic in Singapore.

Will my child need to do exercises at home?

Posture rehabilitation works best when it is practised between visits, so you can expect a few short, simple exercises to practise at home. We choose them from your child’s assessment and show both of you how to do them.

How many visits will my child need?

It depends on what the assessment finds and what you want to achieve. After the first visit we explain the plan and what to expect, and you decide at each step. There are no packages and no lock-in.

What if I think my child may have scoliosis?

An assessment is a sensible first step. We check for signs, explain what we find, and monitor during growth. Where another healthcare provider should be involved, we will advise you and are happy to communicate with your child’s paediatrician. See our page on scoliosis care.

How much does a visit cost?

Chiropractic initial visits are $120 to $180 and follow-up visits are $80 to $150, paid per visit, with reduced rates for children. Posture rehabilitation is charged separately from chiropractic visits, and we will confirm its fee with you before you start. See the fees page for chiropractic fees.
